I found a book recommendation, Indistractable, in my inbox immediately following an hour of wasted time playing games on my phone after my dance class was canceled at the last minute. It feels a little ironic, reading a book about being distracted following a successful period of distraction. But I wonder, was I really distracting myself from doing something productive? I felt while I was playing the game that I should instead be using this new found time to accomplish something else. But after allowing myself an extended period of just playing a game, I really felt like accomplishing something, more than when I felt I should have first put the phone down. Perhaps allowing ourselves a break leaves us feeling refreshed to accomplish the things we desire with renewed focus. And if we play our game until we win, then we can start our goals with a sense of already having accomplished something, so all we need to do is keep the momentum going.
