Party For 1 – Long Lost Update:

Greetings! You may have wondered, “What ever happened to that Party For 1?” Well, a lot of change has happened and the party expanded and then contracted, and now has morphed into something brand new! Good thing my motto is to embrace change.
Party For 1 was created after Baby Boy went off to college and I embraced not only my empty nest, but especially my extra time for myself. Of course college is temporary and he was back before I knew it for holidays and vacations and then moved back home following graduation. His sister also moved in with her new baby! To be fair, I made a moon wish that year, following the birth of the first grandchild, to be closer to the baby, knowing full well that it would probably mean that the baby would move in with me. I realized that the thing I value more than my alone time is my time with my loved ones.
So, at my request, my daughter and baby granddaughter moved in with me. Then a month later baby boy moved back home. This made for a crowded but cozy living situation with love flowing from every room. Baby boy needed some time to get himself on his feet, landing his first post-college job and finding his way. Baby girl needed some time to regroup and complete her degree, with her family by her side. And grand baby, aka the little squeaker, needed the love of us all.
Accompanying all of this family dynamics change was a desire for refinement within my personal life. I broke up with my boyfriend and started dating again. This was a beginning of quite a new journey, some of which I might share with you in the future. I have been enjoying the process of getting to know myself all over again by exploring my new desires. Dating is not easy when you have a full household as well as a small house and I date prolifically so I rarely bring anyone home.
Then one day, the kids moved on and my Party For 1 returned! But while I was still sorting through my party favors, COVID hit. Dating had become easier with an empty household and I met someone just prior to the lock-down. He didn’t become a quarantine partner but as each of us worked from home and isolated from most other people, we spent almost every Saturday night together for many months. The virus loosened its grip when summer arrived and my new partner obtained a boat, which turned out to be a great way to isolate and have fun too!
Soon it was fall and I surprised myself by asking my new partner to crash my Party For 1 and he moved in with me! But it is still vitally important for me, and him, to carve out time for ourselves, individually, so I am keeping my Party For 1 going. As a matter of fact, I read a blog post on https://www.brainpickings.org/ just prior to him moving in about “guarding each other’s solitude,” and we promised each other just that. We have established this in a variety of ways, including, dating other people, which has been limited during the pandemic but still possible with a little creativity. We have separate bedrooms which provide each of us our own personal space. Most nights we sleep alone so it feels special when we do sleep together and then we take turns in each other’s beds. We offer each other space in the evenings after work to achieve our own personal goals like writing or ballet. Some of our pursuits are accomplished together while others are enjoyed separately, trying to strike a comfortable balance.
So I am renewing my goal of continuing my blog so I hope to talk to you all regularly.
Stay Safe and Party On!

I miss you SO much. We have to figure out a safe way to get together. Also, when the law school upgraded their security I lost all of the contacts in my phone! SOOOO annoying. Would you please text me your contact card and Emily’s and Lily’s?
Happy New Year! 2021 has to be better than 2020 but watching the riot today made me wonder if that was true . . .
