Women: I am speaking to you.  Don’t give up on your dreams.  Even if you don’t know what they are yet; even if you don’t have them yet.  It is equally an awesome time and a precarious time for women.  We have tons of freedoms! We have tons of choices! But we still have tons of responsibilities.  And we don’t tend to give ourselves a break, let alone each other.  But if I can advise you for a moment, I would encourage you to seek your sustenance first.  Yes, you have tons of options in this modern age.  But why not make the most of your options by making more options?  What I mean is, don’t delete your options!!  As you go through life, you make choices, even when you choose not to choose.  If you are in high school and you choose not to take the college track choices or the SAT you are choosing to let go of that option for your future.  If you are in college and drop out or take a semester off, which easily turns into three semesters, you could be choosing a life without a degree.

As women, we have a more difficult path set before us as we have to balance family and career because typically we are the child bearers.  We have to take time off to have a child and sometimes that becomes an extended time off because of complications from that experience or just because we want or need more time off to be with our children.  If we have not already established ourselves this becomes a more difficult task.  Many of us know this from experience but I am afraid that the younger generation does not appreciate all that we have negotiated to overcome said obstacles.

I do not mean that our children are in any way obstacles.  They are our very existence.  We live to see them succeed.  So children, please, make the most of your choices and do not delete your options at such a young age.  When you are 70 and decide you don’t actually need a college degree, so be it.  But until then, give yourselves as many options as you can, because, believe me, life is more difficult than you can imagine.
