Shrinky Dink Fail

I have been feeling artistic and crafty lately. This feeling is the result of pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. Expressing myself through writing, drawing, painting, all artsy things in general make me feel slightly awkward, uncomfortable. That is because I am not proficient in these areas. I love learning new things because it stimulates and excites my brain. But I really love being proficient, having all the answers, acting as an expert. When I am learning something, sometimes I get frustrated. With art, I usually throw in the towel.
But lately, I haven’t been letting myself give up! I have been pushing forward, through the uncomfortable feelings. I am almost finished on my logo, I just have to resize. I am proud of the way it is turning out and I can’t wait to share it with you!
Tonight, I tried making Shrinky Dinks. This was a favorite crafty thing to do when I was growing up and I loved it. I have been seeing all these videos on how to make your own homemade Shrinky Dinks and it looks pretty simple. One of my Facebook friends said it worked for her. So I thought I would give it a try. I wanted to connect to my inner kid and her crafty side! It didn’t really turn out like it does in those videos! I am not sure what I did wrong but here is the result:
I started with the ladybug, but the edges curled so much it flipped over in the oven and the marker got all over the wax paper. I took it out and tried to flip it back and straiten it out and then put it back but this was the best it was going to be. Then I tried smaller pumpkins but they curled up too. After the first one curled the one way, I tried drawing on the other side of the plastic but it also stayed curled up. I thought these things were supposed to straighten out and flatten up in the oven after shrinking and curling a little bit. Any advice is appreciated but at this point, this is a Shrinky Dink Fail 🙁
